Shakin All Over!

Recently when 4 of the tenants from Milton Lodge went to see Shakin' Stevens perform in Brighton, they met some friends of the drummer supporting him. Not one to miss out on an opportunity, Helen Munday who was supporting them cheekily asked if they could get some memorabilia for them. Helen received a letter from the friends with 2 signed photo's of Shakin' Stevens himself. Here she can be seen presenting these to Paul W and Lloyd who were over the moon with their new autographs.

Celebrating in Style !

This year Nigel Fitzsimons celebrated his birthday in style. He hired an MG GBT for the day and had his own chauffeur Daniel for the day. They raced about the country lanes and had a pub lunch in the country. All was rolling along fine until the car broke down. Not too much bad news though as it means he now gets to do it all again free of charge!

Spooktacular Event!

Number 64's Halloween Social Evening was as SPOOKTACULAR as we had hoped! We had lots of scary faces turn up and take part in our ghoulish games and to watch our freaky film.  Number 64's Social Club made Halloween masks in preparation for our Spooky Social Evening. Here's Sarah Shipway in her finished mask. Purrrrfect!'

Fabulous at 50 !

Paul Wycliffe, from Milton Lodge celebrated his 50th birthday in style with a rock 'n' roll party in his bungalow. 20 guests danced away to songs from the 50's and 60's and there was live music from Paul and his keyworker Henry.

Martha and Hugh from Milton Lodge did swimmingly well in this years Arun Bathtub Race, raising a whopping £1200+. Dressed as the Owl and the Pussycat, they set sail their beautiful pea green boat along the river Arun. Supported by many tenants from Milton Lodge and staff from across the Trust, they put all their might into paddling up the river before turning around for the home run.

A massive thank you to all those who helped build the boat, those who made the costumes and the many people who donated towards their cause, helping them exceed their initial target by a long way. The biggest well done to Martha and Hugh for all their hard work.

Jeremy, Stuart and Graeme from Milton Lodge went for a weeks holiday to Devon. They experienced many different activities including a boat trip from Brixham to Torquay, a visit to Paignton Zoo and a ride on a steam engine. Jeremy doubled up the long journey buy visiting his Dad who he doesn't get to see often due to the long distance.

She got lost in the maze but luckily found her way out just before the coach departed.

NATIONAL QUALITY MARK EQUALS NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THE ALDINGBOURNE TRUST

Two Aldingbourne Trust projects, WorkAid and the Number 64 Drop In Centre, have been accredited with the nationally recognised quality mark for organisations which provide support to individuals to make learning and work more accessible – the matrix Standard.

The West Sussex charity undertook this accreditation to demonstrate the calibre of its work supporting people with learning difficulties, particularly in these two areas.

WorkAid supports individuals with learning difficulties aged 16 and over across Sussex to gain voluntary and paid employment. It enables doorways to employment to open, making a difference to individuals and their communities by improving attitudes, and approaches towards disability. Employment Consultants work with the candidate to complete a personalised programme of work preparation, accredited training, job searching and vocational job coaching, until the candidate is able to work independently. A key part of the success of WorkAid is working closely with employers, community and agency organisations, local government, day centres and community teams.

The Number 64 Drop In Centre in the High Street in Bognor Regis provides support for people with learning difficulties to make informed decisions about aspects of their lives including finances, housing and benefits. In addition the team support people to access social and recreational events and to integrate themselves into the community.

The Aldingbourne Trust is a local charity celebrating 33 years of supporting people with learning  disabilities with housing, leisure, learning new skills, training, creative arts and employment. Their unique social enterprise approach helps people to help themselves, rather than maintain dependence on others.

“Achieving this award demonstrates that our clients are receiving the best information, advice and guidance possible,” said Martin Botting, the Trust’s Organisational Development Manager. “Over the last year, both WorkAid and Number 64 have developed their services around the Matrix Standard principles of customer and partner involvement. It is a credit to both teams that the assessor was so complementary about their work.”

Matrix Standard Assessor Keith Hunt summarised his assessment:

“The Aldingbourne Trust presented itself as a professional, caring organisation, which through the expertise and dedication of committed Trustees, managers and staff delivers an essential service to the communities in which it works - without compromise.”

David Allan, Managing Director at emqc Ltd said of the organisation’s achievement:

“This matrix Accreditation is another example of how the matrix Standard is proving effective for all types of organisations, helping them to provide a more professional service offering and to strive to be the best in their sector.”
