Many people with learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities prefer to live independently in self-contained accommodation but appreciate the confidence that comes with knowing that the support of an experienced outreach team is close by when it’s needed.
The Aldingbourne Trust is committed to supporting people with learning disabilities at every step of their journey towards fulfilled, independent living and this support continues when moving into self-contained accommodation.
We’re proud to watch people with complex needs really develop when they have more control over their own environment, but we make sure we’re on hand if help is needed to cook, clean, manage money, make friends and enjoy their free time with confidence.
Specialist outreach staff are always on hand
Our team of specialist outreach staff provide individual support that ranges from pre-arranged half an hour a week visits to 24 hour intensive support. This service offers a range of benefits for tenants, including:
- We provide safe, comfortable housing and support people to manage their lives
- We provide assistance with daily activities, including budgeting, cooking and personal care
- We encourage our residents to use local community resources whenever possible to ensure they are involved with their community
- We provide access to an emergency on-call service 24/7
Our residents in both self-contained and shared housing also have access to our drop-in centre at Number 64 in Bognor Regis, which can offer help and advice and is open throughout the week.
Buying a home for a loved one
The Aldingbourne Trust also works with parents and carers who want to buy a home for their loved one. There are a range of schemes to purchase a property, including buying privately or with the help of a housing association or a benefits-led project.
