GSK (Glaxo Smith Kline) Orange Day - Community Project with The Acorn - 3rd March 2009

Staff and Volunteers from GSK are funding £643 and their time to support the Acorn with a Community Project. They will be rabbit proofing the greenhouse, extending a water pipe and giving the polytunnel a makeover by levelling and gravelling the interior.

Thanks to GSK in advance for giving their time and funding this project.

Chichester College Partnerships

We currently work in partnership with Chichester College whereby students from the college run the day to day operation in the retail area.

Students with trainee Police Officers

We are working in partnership with Sussex Police whereby trainee Police Officers are placed at Acorn as part of their training programme.

Training opportunities include supported voluntary work and work placements to help individuals develop their skills and widen their experience.

Adopt a Station

The Acorn has successfully adopted railway Stations across the South Coast from Brighton to Bosham up to Dorking. In addition, we are also adopting planting areas at various stations including Barnham, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

This is giving present and past students the opportunity to take part in a worthwhile community project by maintaining hanging baskets and other floral displays throughout the year.

The stations have provided funding for the necessary materials needed to ensure this project continues to be successful. This is now our third year of working in partnership with Southern Rail.

If you are aware of any other worthwhile projects in your local area, please contact Rachel Smither on 07508 038639 or email rachelsmither@aldingbournetrust.co.uk

Parham House

For many years now, the Acorn have worked in partnership with Parham House reguarly visiting to help maintain their grounds.
